Connect Your Business Line to Kai
Kai needs calls to actually reach him before he can answer them. There are two ways to do that — pick whichever fits how you already do business.
Two Ways Kai Answers
1. Give out your Kai number directly
Every KaiCalls account comes with its own phone number. If you're starting fresh — a new line, a new location, a new campaign — you can put that number straight on your website, ads, and listings. Nothing to forward, nothing to configure.
2. Keep your number and forward it
Already have a business number customers know and call? Keep it. Your carrier can forward calls from that number to your Kai number, so callers still dial the number they've always used — Kai just picks up on the other end. This page (and the carrier guides linked below) cover that setup.
Choose When Calls Reach Kai
When you set up forwarding, your carrier asks you to choose between two modes:
- •Only when you can't answer (recommended) — busy, no answer, or your phone is unreachable. You keep taking calls yourself; Kai only picks up the ones you'd otherwise miss.
- •All calls — every call on this line goes straight to Kai, every time.
For your first week, use conditional forwarding (only when you can't answer). It's the safer default while you get a feel for how Kai handles real calls, and it doubles as “ring me first, then Kai” — your phone rings the way it always has, and Kai only steps in on the calls you would have missed anyway. Once you trust him, switching to all calls is a one-line code change with your carrier.
What “Connected” Means
Dialing the forwarding code on your phone doesn't immediately prove it worked — carriers don't always give a clear confirmation. So once you dial it, Kai calls your business line himself. If that call comes through, forwarding is live and your status shows Connected. If it doesn't, something in the code or the carrier setup needs a second look.
You can walk through this from two places, and they use the same steps and codes:
- •The activation screen right after signup, if you set forwarding up during onboarding.
- •Dashboard > Phone System > Numbers > How to Forward Calls, any time later — pick your carrier, pick your mode, and the exact code appears.
Dialing the Code: iPhone vs. Android
Every carrier code you'll see in these guides has to be dialed from the business phone itself — not from another line, and not from the dashboard.
iPhone
Tapping a link can't dial codes that contain * or # — iOS blocks it. Copy the code instead, open the Phone app, paste it into the keypad, and tap the call button yourself.
Android
A Dial button next to the code opens the dialer with the code already entered — just tap Call to send it.
Find Your Carrier
- Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, or Spectrum Mobile
- AT&T, T-Mobile, Mint Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, or Google Fi
- US Cellular
- Visible
- Cricket Wireless or Boost Mobile
- Landline or VoIP (RingCentral, Ooma, Google Voice, and more)
Once forwarding is dialed in, test that it worked, and keep how to undo or pause it handy for later.
