Landline or VoIP System
Landlines and VoIP systems don't use carrier dial codes like *72 — forwarding is a setting in your provider's online portal instead.
Before you start: have your Kai number handy — it's in Dashboard > Phone System.
General Steps
- Log in to your phone provider's online admin portal (not a dial code).
- Find the call handling or call forwarding settings for the line you want to connect, and set forward on no answer to your Kai number. If a “ring count” or “ring duration” option is available, a shorter setting gets calls to Kai faster.
- Save the setting.
- Kai will call your business line to confirm forwarding is working.
Where This Lives, by Provider
RingCentral
Admin Portal > Users > select the user > Call Handling & Forwarding, where you can choose to forward only when a call goes unanswered after a set number of rings.
Ooma Office
office.ooma.com > Settings > select the extension > Call Forwarding tab > turn on Call Forward When Unanswered and set the ring duration.
Google Voice
Settings > Linked numbers. Note that Google Voice rings all linked numbers at once rather than only after you miss a call — for true no-answer-only forwarding, use one of Google Voice's custom forwarding rules instead.
Grasshopper
Settings > Call Forwarding Settings and Extensions > edit the number or extension, where you can set the ring order and timing before a call forwards.
Nextiva
Voice > Forwarding > Call forward (unanswered) — admins can also set this per user under Users > Actions > Voice Settings > Forwarding.
Dialpad
Settings > Call Handling & Voicemail > Advanced, where no-answer, busy, and unreachable forwarding rules live.
8x8 Work
Admin Console > Users > edit the user > Call Forwarding > “When User does not Answer the Call” > enter your Kai number as the external destination.
Using a different provider? Look for “call handling,” “call forwarding,” or “call routing” in your admin settings — nearly every business VoIP system has a version of this.
Turn Forwarding Off
Go back to the same call handling settings and turn the forwarding rule off, or clear the destination number.
Still stuck? Reply to Kai's text and we'll set it up with you.
