Google Fi call forwarding

Google Fi has no dial code for this. Open the Fi app, go to Phone settings > Call forwarding, and pick Always forward to your Kai number.

Know this first: Fi can't forward just the calls you miss. Always forward sends every call to Kai, and your Fi phone won't ring. If you want to take calls yourself first, skip forwarding. Give out your Kai number for the calls you want Kai to take.

Have your Kai number handy. It's in Dashboard > Phone System.

Turn Forwarding On

  1. Open the Google Fi app, or go to fi.google.com.
  2. On the Home tab, under Phone settings, tap Call forwarding.
  3. Pick Always forward.
  4. Tap Add a number. Enter your Kai number.
  5. Fi sends a code to check the number. Follow the steps on screen, then Save.
  6. Call your Fi number from another phone to check that Kai answers.

Dial codes like the ones for other carriers don't work on Fi. Your phone's own call forwarding setting doesn't work either. Use the Fi app.

Don't pick Ring all numbers. It rings Kai at the same time as your phone. Kai picks up right away, so you never get to answer first.

Can't get the Fi code? Fi lets you check the number by a call instead of a text. Pick that option on the same screen.

Turn Forwarding Off

  1. Open the Fi app and go to Phone settings > Call forwarding.
  2. Pick Don't forward, then Save.
  3. Call your Fi number from another phone to check that it rings again.

How It Works

Fi has three choices. Don't forward rings only your phone. Ring all numbers rings your phone and other numbers at once. Always forward sends calls only to the number you pick.

None of the three waits for you to miss a call. That's why Kai takes every call when you use Always forward.

Common Questions

Is there a Google Fi call forwarding code?

No. Dial codes do not work on Fi. You set call forwarding in the Google Fi app or on the Fi website, under Phone settings, Call forwarding.

Can Google Fi forward only the calls I miss?

No. Fi has no setting for missed calls only. Always forward sends every call to Kai, and your Fi phone does not ring.

Should I use Ring all numbers with Kai?

We don’t suggest it. Ring all numbers rings Kai at the same time as your phone, and Kai picks up right away. You would never get to answer first.

How do I turn Google Fi call forwarding off?

Open the Fi app, go to Phone settings, Call forwarding, and pick Don’t forward. Then save.

Does call forwarding send my text messages to Kai too?

No. Call forwarding only moves voice calls. Texts keep going to your phone. To have Kai answer texts, you need texting turned on for your Kai number, which is a separate step.

Do I lose my phone number if I forward it?

No. Forwarding does not move or cancel your number. Keep your phone plan active. Your number stays yours, and you can turn forwarding off any time.

Next, test that it worked. Still stuck? Reply to Kai's text and we'll set it up with you.
