Connect Claude or ChatGPT to KaiCalls: What It Does and How to Set It Up

How to connect your KaiCalls account to Claude or ChatGPT over MCP so you can ask about leads, calls, voicemails, and texts in plain language — and exactly what it can and can't do.

KaiCalls can connect to an AI assistant you already use — Claude or ChatGPT — over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), so you can ask about your leads, calls, voicemails, and texts in plain language instead of digging through a dashboard. Type "how many leads came in this week?" or "read me the latest voicemail" into Claude or ChatGPT, and it answers from your real KaiCalls data, scoped to one business at a time.

Most owners already have a tab open for a chat assistant during the day, for email, notes, or research. Getting an answer about the business usually means switching over to the KaiCalls dashboard, finding the right page, and reading through a table. This connection removes that switch — the same assistant you're already talking to can just look.

This guide covers what the connection actually is, what you can ask it to do, where the boundaries are, and how to set it up.

What this connection actually is

KaiCalls works as a connector for AI assistants that support MCP — Model Context Protocol — which today includes Claude and ChatGPT. Once you connect, the assistant can look at your KaiCalls data and take a small number of actions on your behalf, scoped to one of your businesses at a time.

You stay in control the whole way through. The assistant connects using your own KaiCalls login, not a shared or service account, so it only ever sees what your account can see. If you belong to more than one business, the connection is tied to a single one — connect again and pick a different business if you want to ask about that one instead.

This is a different door into the same data you already see on the dashboard and hear on an admin phone call. It doesn't add new capabilities to KaiCalls — it adds a new way to ask for the ones that already exist.

What you can ask it to do

Once connected, the assistant can read your KaiCalls data and place outbound calls on your behalf. In practice, that covers:

  • Leads — "List my new leads from this week" or "What's the score on the Johnson lead and why?"
  • Calls — "Show my recent calls," "What was the summary of the last call?," or "Read me that transcript."
  • Voicemails — "Do I have any new voicemails?," with the transcript and a link to the recording.
  • Texts — "Show the latest SMS conversations," filtered by inbound or outbound.
  • Campaigns — "How is my outbound campaign doing?"
  • Analytics — "Give me a summary of lead conversion and call volume for the last 30 days."
  • Outbound calls — "Call this lead back with my agent."

All of it comes back as plain language, the same way you'd ask a person who had the dashboard open in front of them.

What it can't do

Most of what the assistant does is read-only — looking things up, not changing them. Placing an outbound call is the one action-style capability included in that everyday list, and it's a clearly scoped permission of its own, separate from reading data.

Anything closer to configuration — updating an agent's prompt, greeting, or other settings — sits behind a separate, more sensitive permission, and KaiCalls requires an explicit confirmation or your approval in the dashboard before a change like that actually takes effect. The assistant can't quietly rewrite your setup in the background.

The connection also can't reach past the business you approved. If you manage more than one business, the assistant only sees the one tied to that specific connection — not the whole account. And it doesn't replace your KaiCalls login: you can revoke the connection at any time from your account, and it stops immediately.

How to connect it, step by step

  1. Open your AI assistant's connector settings. In Claude, that's "Add custom connector." In ChatGPT, it's under connectors or apps.
  2. Paste the KaiCalls connector URL: https://www.kaicalls.com/api/mcp
  3. Sign in with your normal KaiCalls account when prompted.
  4. Approve the permissions the assistant is requesting. If you belong to more than one business, you'll pick which one to connect — the assistant can only access that one business at a time.
  5. Try it. Ask "List my recent calls" to confirm it's working.

If connecting says no business is available, make sure your user is added to a business in the KaiCalls dashboard first, then try again. And remember it's one business per connection — connect again and choose a different business if you need to ask about another one.

If you'd rather talk than type, the same set of changes is also available by phone: call your KaiCalls number from a registered phone and Kai answers in admin mode, so you can check leads, change your greeting, update your hours, and more, just by asking out loud.

What it costs

Connecting Claude or ChatGPT is included on every KaiCalls plan — Solo starts at $69/mo, Pro at $199/mo, both with a generous answered-call allowance and no per-minute overage. There's no extra fee to set up or use the connection, but you'll need your own Claude or ChatGPT account or subscription separately — KaiCalls doesn't provide the assistant, just the connector into it.

FAQ

Do I need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan to use this? KaiCalls doesn't require a specific tier on either — whatever access you already have to Claude or ChatGPT is what you use to connect. The requirement is just that the assistant supports MCP custom connectors.

Can the assistant see data from all my businesses at once? No. Each connection is scoped to one business. If you manage more than one, connect again and pick the other business when prompted.

Can I ask it to change my greeting or agent settings? It can help with configuration changes, but anything sensitive — like updating an agent's prompt or settings — requires an explicit confirmation or your approval in the dashboard before it takes effect. It won't apply a change like that silently.

Can it make calls on my behalf? Yes, that's one of the capabilities included — for example, "Call this lead back with my agent." It's a separate, clearly scoped permission from the read-only lookups.

How do I disconnect it? Revoke the connection any time from your KaiCalls account. There's no cooldown or approval needed to turn it back off.

Try it on your own leads. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your KaiCalls account and ask it what came in this week, or call the KaiCalls demo line at (417) 386-2898 to talk to Kai first, or visit kaicalls.com.
