Decision guide

Should I forward my number or move it?

You already have a phone number customers know. You can forward its calls to Kai in five minutes, or move the whole line to KaiCalls.

Kai thinking about forwarding versus porting

Forwarding

Takes 5 minutes

Keep your carrier. Dial a short code. Kai catches missed calls.

Porting

Takes 1 to 3 weeks

Move your line to KaiCalls. Cancel your old phone bill.

Both work

Same Kai

Kai answers calls, takes notes, and texts you on either path.

Side by side

Forwarding vs. porting at a glance.

Here is how the two choices stack up for daily business use.

Call forwarding (Fast & easy)

  • Setup: 5 minutes with a dial code.
  • Phone bill: You keep paying your current carrier.
  • Your handset: Rings first. Kai answers when you are busy.
  • Texting: Stays on your cell phone as it works today.

Number porting (Full move)

  • Setup: 1 to 3 weeks for carrier review.
  • Phone bill: You close the old line once moved.
  • Your handset: Kai answers directly, or routes to you.
  • Texting: Moves to KaiCalls app with brand registration.

Option 1

When call forwarding is the best fit.

Forwarding is the top choice for small teams and solo owners.

You want to keep your carrier

If your cell plan has great family rates or bundles, keep it. You do not need to cancel or transfer anything.

You want to try Kai first

Forwarding takes five minutes. If you want to test Kai today without risk, forwarding is the safest path.

You want your phone to ring first

You can answer when you are free. Kai only picks up when you miss a call or decline it.

Option 2

When number porting is the best fit.

Moving your number is great when you want to get rid of an old landline.

You want one less phone bill

If you pay $50 to $100 every month for an office landline, porting moves it into your KaiCalls plan.

You do not want a personal cell tied to work

Porting lets Kai handle the line in the cloud. You do not need a physical desk phone plugged into the wall.

You have an authorized account bill

You need your carrier account number and transfer PIN to move the line.

Never cancel before porting completes

Keep your old account paid and open. If you cancel early, the carrier can release your number to someone else.

Decision tree

Which one should you pick right now?

  1. 1

If you want calls answered today: Forward

Turn on conditional call forwarding. It takes two minutes and costs nothing extra.
  2. 2

If you have a landline you want to drop: Port

Start a port request in KaiCalls. Keep paying your old carrier until we verify the move is done.
  3. 3

You can start with forwarding and port later

Many owners forward calls during their first month. Once they love Kai, they port the number over.

Honest limits

Important rules for both setups.

Never move a personal cell number to a business cloud line unless you want all your personal calls answered by an AI secretary. Also, moving a number does not move your cell phone plan or your phone hardware.
