Dispute a charge

How to dispute a charge on a Chase credit card

Chase says to review the charge, contact the merchant first, and if that doesn’t fix it, start a dispute online from the transaction within 60 days of it first appearing on your statement.

The steps Chase publishes

  1. 1Review the charge: the merchant’s name, phone number and your past activity with them.
  2. 2Contact the merchant. Write down the date, who you spoke with and what they said, because Chase may ask for it.
  3. 3If it isn’t resolved, sign in to Chase, find the transaction, choose the arrow and follow the instructions to start a dispute.
  4. 4A pending charge can’t be disputed until it posts, which usually takes 1 to 3 business days.
  • For a charge you didn’t make, Chase’s page points to its fraud and lost-card line on the back of your card. That call needs you.

Or ask your assistant to have Kai make the call

The call Kai can make is step 2: the merchant. He asks for the refund or correction, and the transcript gives you the date, who answered and what they said. The dispute with Chase is yours to file.

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant connected to KaiCalls:

Have Kai call [the merchant] at [their number]. I was charged [amount] on [date] for [what it was], and [what went wrong]. Ask them to refund or correct it, and ask for the name of the person he speaks with and any reference number.

If Kai makes the call

What Kai does on the call

  • Opens by saying he is an AI assistant calling for you.
  • Works through the phone menu and waits on hold.
  • Asks the questions in your request, one at a time.
  • Brings the answer back to your assistant, and you get a transcript of the call.

What he can’t do

  • He can’t prove he is you. Many companies only discuss an account with the account holder, or ask security questions he has no answer to. When that happens, the transcript says so.
  • Leave card numbers, passwords and Social Security numbers out of your request.
  • He calls businesses in the US and Canada, not personal cell phones.
  • He doesn’t place errand calls to numbers in states where everyone on a call must agree to recording: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Washington.
