Ring your cell first. Kai gets the ones you miss.

You want to take your own calls when you can. Ring-first lets you. A call to your KaiCalls number rings your cell first. If you do not pick up, Kai answers. No caller hits a dead end.

You first

Your cell rings

Every call to your KaiCalls number rings your cell before Kai.

About 20s

Ring time

You pick how long it rings. Then Kai picks up.

One rule

No loops

Do not forward that same cell to your KaiCalls number.

Overview

What happens when someone calls

Your callers dial your KaiCalls number. They do not hear a menu. They just hear it ring.

1. Your cell rings

The call goes to your cell first. It shows your KaiCalls number, so you know it is a work call.

2. You pick up

Answer like any call. You are talking to the caller right away. No menu, no buttons to press.

3. Or Kai picks up

If you do not answer in about 18 seconds, Kai answers. He finds out who called and what they need. You can get a text about it.

Step by step

How to turn on ring-first

It takes about two minutes. You do it once for each KaiCalls number.

  1. 1

    Open your numbers

Sign in. Tap Phone. Then tap Who answers calls.
  2. 2

    Open the number

Find your KaiCalls number. Tap Edit Call Routing.
  3. 3

    Pick ring-first

    Tap Ring My Phone First.
  4. 4

    Add your cell

Type your cell number under Who Should Ring First? You can add a teammate too. Each phone rings in order.
  5. 5

    Set the ring time

Slide the ring time. Fifteen seconds works for most people. Turn on Missed Call Text Alerts to get a text when Kai answers.
  6. 6

    Save and test

Tap Save Changes. Call your KaiCalls number from a different phone. Answer once. Then call again and let it ring.

Before you start

The one rule: do not forward that cell to Kai

Ring-first already sends your missed calls to Kai. You do not need call forwarding on your cell too.

Why it breaks

Kai rings your cell. Your cell sends the call back to Kai. Kai rings your cell again. The call goes in a circle, and the caller never gets help. If we see this, the dashboard warns you before you save.

What to do

If your cell forwards calls to your KaiCalls number, turn that off first. Our call forwarding guide shows you how for your phone company.
An old business line is fine. If you have a separate office number that forwards to Kai, keep it. The rule is only about the cell that rings first.

After you save

What you will see

Every call shows up in your dashboard, the ones you took and the ones Kai took.

  • Your cell rings when someone calls your KaiCalls number.
  • When you pick up, you are talking to the caller.
  • When you miss it, Kai answers. You get a text if text alerts are on.
  • Each call shows up in your call list.

Fix it

If something looks wrong

The call keeps ringing and never ends

Your cell may forward calls to your KaiCalls number. Turn that off, then call again.

My voicemail took the call

Make the ring time shorter than your voicemail wait. Try 15 seconds, then test again.

My cell never rings

Open Edit Call Routing. Check that Ring My Phone First is picked and your cell number is right.
